Hu was typically used in the Warring States era where the carvings depicted the
aristocracy's daily life - including scenes of hunting and war. There are many types
of Hu vessels, like "yinhu-drinking pot" or "Jihu-libation pot".
The development of ancient bronze meant a civilization that was a settled and
organized society. The bronze making process required locating, protecting, mining,
and smelting the ores that contain copper and tin which produced the bronze metal.
Bronze was customarily used to make stronger tools for agriculture and better weapons
for war.
In old China the talents of skilled bronze crafters were put to special use of casting
drinking vessels and food containers - which played a central role in ancestor worship
and ceremonial rituals.
