This head of a Buddha with the curly hair is common in the style of the Qing Dynasty. The snail-like knotted hair, downcast eyes, and smooth taut skin all indicate that this is an image from the Qing Dynasty.
The shapely, graceful head of Buddha, has firmly modeled features and a subtle smile. It symbolizes the divine wisdom, conveys a message of perpetual bliss and timeless equilibrium amidst chaos. The hair is stylized, like the tail of the peacock and it is arranged in short curls and each curl goes off from left to right, symbolizing wisdom; the brow is broad and smooth; between the brows is a tuft of hair (urna). There is compassion on the face as the half-closed eyes look inwards, meditating. The earlobes are elongated, reaching the neck. What is prominent is the captivating smile of compassion on the Buddha's face.
A Buddha's compassion, wisdom, and power are completely beyond conception. With nothing left to obscure his mind, he sees all phenomena throughout the universe. Through the force of his or her compassion, Buddha spontaneously does whatever is appropriate to benefit.
